Woodcut & Linocut Prints

The relief print is inked on the surface of the print block, litho paper is carefully laid on top, and then it’s run through a press. The woodcut, or linocut (Battleship linoleum) gives a positive image created by cutting lines into the surface of the block. These prints are hand made by the artist.

“I like this style of printmaking because of its swift directness of carving the image and the simplicity of the materials used to make a print. Master Printer Charles Cohan used to show us beautiful prints from South Africa. Shanty town artists would tape their prints to the ground along the sidewalks of Johannesburg and sell them to tourists. Simple but powerful stuff.”

Intaglio Etchings

A print is produced by inking the etched line into a zinc plate, then wiping the surface and placing a damp printmaking paper over the plate before running the print through an etching press. In most of the prints, an aquatint or half tone has been designed into the plate. The result is an embossed print of superb richness. These prints are hand printed by the artist, and hand colored if required. Click here for a glossary of terms for Intagalio printmaking.

“Most of my etchings have an aquatint…the Waikiki Babylon series is done using this technique. It lends a certain moody rawness to the images. I enjoy the act of printing and wiping the plate…almost a meditative process. When you pull the print from the plate, it’s like magic every time.”

Gicle’e Printmaking

Gicle’e is a French term for “fine spray”, made famous by the Louvre in Paris to display Master original art works deemed too delicate for public viewing. Gicle’e tuly is High Definition printmaking at its very best. An image is scanned with a very high resolution scanner and digitized. The art is then printed using state of the art equipment onto high quality archival paper or canvas. Click here to find out more about Giclee printing.

“The colors are crisp, vibrant and highly accurate to the original. This is a good way to acquire quality prints by affordable means.”

Original Oil Paintings

Original paintings are done in oils on linen or duck cotton canvas.

“Painting is the purest form of art, and probably the most enjoyable. I find myself easily seduced by the mixing of the colors. One of a kind paintings are especially unique for me, as most of my career has been about creating images for mass consumption.”
